More than 1,000 students, parents and members of the public participated in the 4th Study in Europe Fair 2025 to explore study opportunities and scholarships at renowned European universities. The event took place at Koh Pich on November 12, from 4pm-8pm.
During the event, more than 50 representatives from European universities provided information on undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, study visit opportunities, and scholarships, including study opportunities through the Erasmus+ and European Global Gateway programmes.
The 4th Study in Europe Fair 2025 was attended by EU ambassador Igor Driesmans, along with the ambassadors of many EU member states, known as Team Europe. The event also saw the presence of Deputy Prime Minster Hang Chuon Naron, Minister of Education, Youth and Sport, and Hem Vanndy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, who jointly presided over the ceremony, along with Heng Sour, Minister of Labour and Vocational Training.
The fair was a celebration of another significant step in the partnership between the EU and Cambodia, under the Global Gateway Flagship project “Education for Green and Digital Jobs”.
The project launched the first European Global Gateway Scholarship programme for the water sector (30 scholarships for Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral degrees in Europe), announced 20 scholarship recipients in the energy sector and celebrated over 100 alumni of Master’s Degrees in hydro engineering and sanitation.
In addition, the project also provided 185 full scholarships for STEM subjects at 10 universities in Cambodia (Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral degrees).
The November 12 event was also an opportunity for potential students to consult with and hear answers representatives of each university, advisors and Cambodian alumni who had studied in Europe. Decathlon also organised sporting activities and games.
“Participating in the Study in Europe Fair 2025 is an excellent opportunity for Cambodian students and their families to directly explore the rich and high-quality study pathways available at European universities. This event underscores the EU’s commitment to making the EU a leading destination for education, research and innovation,” noted Driesmans.
“Through the 'Choose Europe for Science' initiative, launched in May 2025, we aim to attract and influence top global talent by ensuring a world-class learning environment, long-term career development and full support for scientific freedom,” he added.
Education minister Chuon Naron also addressed the event, recalling his time studying in Europe 40 years ago.
He shared his belief that studying in Europe offers many opportunities, from acquiring skills to learning a new language and understanding different cultures, not only of European countries but also of other nations worldwide, because Europe is a hub for students from all over the globe.
Heat Phanavin, a student from Pannasastra University of Cambodia, was delighted to participate in the fair and receive detailed information about study programmes in Europe.
“Studying in Europe provides so many choices for students, both in terms of scholarships and the attention given to students who go to study there. I want to study in Germany because there are so many study programmes,” she said.
Em Puthponnareay, a student from the National University of Management, said he came to the event because he is interested in international business and wants to study in Europe.
Similarly, Vong Panya, a former law student at the University of Cambodia, who currently works with a civil society organisation in Phnom Penh, said that the Study in Europe Fair 2025 is a close bridge between Cambodian students and European universities, offering excellent opportunities for study and scholarships. He is interested in universities in France, Germany and Ireland that offer programs in International Law and studies in globalised international relations.
“Events like this provide scholarship information and serve as a platform to build a bridge of friendship and understanding between Cambodia and Europe through education and culture. For Cambodian youth, it confirms that study opportunities in Europe are possible if we are well-prepared and genuinely motivated to learn,” he said.
